World Book Day 2019

Marlborough St Mary’s pupils were thoroughly engaged in the World Book Day celebrations on Thursday 7th March. We saw a huge variety of brilliant costumes from both the pupils and staff!

Throughout the day, the children were prepared to Drop Everything And Read at any moment when they heard the bell ring around the school. The classes were also invited to design and decorate their classroom doors as the front cover from their favourite story. We had some absolutely brilliant doors ranging from Fantastic Mr Fox (with a functioning tunnel), Pirates in Underpants, The Ice Monster and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Prior to the event, the children were invited to take part in some ‘Extreme Reading’. Once again, the children surpassed expectations with examples of reading taking place whilst skiing, bowling, climbing trees – so many random and extreme locations!

Finally, to fully celebrate our love of reading and writing, we welcomed Bill Egginton, author of the Rescue Series of books, to the school. Bill was able to share his stories with the children and talk about what motivated him to write about these endangered creatures.

What a memorable and inspiring day!
