On Tuesday 18th January, the Marlborough St Mary’s Year 5 and 6 Girls’ Football Team competed in the Wiltshire School Football Finals. They showed grit and determination in the pool stages, playing 4 games. The first they won 7-0 with fantastic goals from Gen, Nina, Georgia, and Phoebe. They went on to draw against the next two teams 0-0 keeping a clean sheet with our fantastic defense of Amy, Alexis, Poppy, and Jemima in goal. We won our final pool match 3-0 which was enough to put us through to the semi-finals.
In the semi-finals, the girls attacked and pushed forward but the opposition’s defense held tight despite several shots on target. Finishing 0-0 it went on to a nail-biting penalty shoot-out. All the girls were brave and put themselves forward to take a shot but unfortunately, it was not our day.
We are so proud of these girls, they have a fantastic team attitude, work hard and show great skill -everything a school could wish for.
We would like to thank Miss Miles for all her hard work with the girls, helping them to reach the finals is a fantastic achievement.
