Applying for a Reception school place to start September 2019

This year’s application round for Reception places for September 2019 is now open.

By law a child does not have to start school until the term following the fifth birthday. However, most children start school in the September following the fourth birthday.

If your child was born between 1st September 2014 and 31st August 2015 they are due to start school in September 2019 and you will need to apply for a school place by 15th January 2019All children will be offered a full time place. All admissions are administered by the Local Authority.

You can apply by completing an application online at www.wiltshire.gov.uk.

On 16th April 2019 letters will be dispatched to all parents who submitted an application form by the January deadline, offering a place at one school.  If you have been refused a place at your preferred school you can appeal.

Applications received after the January deadline will be considered after the first round and this means that the outcome of your application will not be determined until late June 2019 at the earliest.

Transfer to Secondary School

At the end of year 6, children transfer to secondary school, with the majority of our children going to St John’s, Marlborough. Applications for a place at secondary school must be made through Wiltshire Council in the Autumn term of Year 6. The deadline for secondary school admissions for September 2019 is 31 October 2018. Your child will bring home a form or you can apply online. Parents will find out on 1st March 2019.

Transfer arrangements for our Year 6 pupils going to St John’s are sent to parents during the Spring Term prior to their children starting in September. These arrangements include visits to Marlborough St Mary’s by St John’s staff, visits made to St John’s by our Year 6 pupils and Parents Evenings when you can visit the school and meet the teachers who will be directly involved with your child/children.
