Friends of Marlborough St Mary’s

Who are we?

We are a group of parents/carers with children at Marlborough St Mary’s who raise money to enhance the experience of the children attending our school. We share the belief that our school is an amazing school at the heart of our community in Marlborough. We want the best for our children so we work closely with the school to examine areas where we can assist with funding items or experiences the school is unable to provide in these times of reduced budgets!

Following the amalgamation of the two schools, the Friends group from each have also joined forces, and we hope to bring the best events form both sites together.

This means that as a body we will organise events including the Summer Fête and Christmas Fayre, Curry & Quiz Nights, Discos, Raffles and sponsored events such as the Infants’ Bounce and the Juniors’ Swim. We also provide volunteers to help at school events, such as Open Evenings, Spring Music concerts, and this year’s Inaugural Triathlon event. We also co-ordinate any participation in national events such as the Children in Need and Sport/Comic Relief activities.

The money raised at our events will be used to purchase items for the children at Marlborough St Mary’s. We will be working closely with the staff to ensure that the funds raised will be used in the most effective way possible.

Committee

Our Committee this year is:

Position Name
Co-Chair Catriona Taylor
Alice Macdonald
Treasurer Saffron Gannon
Secretary Gemma Blundy

We also welcome non-named members of the Friends, who play a vital role in supporting our activities, such as helping at fayres, selling raffle tickets, donating time or skills — anything they can! We meet formally once a term, more frequently if we have an event coming up, and informally nights out in Marlborough — everyone is welcome at these!

Classroom Representatives

We have a couple of Reps in each class to provide a link to the Committee. You can ask your Rep for help or info, or share ideas for future events. The Class Reps are also responsible for recruiting helpers and volunteers. This year’s reps are:

Communication

We send information out in a number of ways – termly Newsletters, notes in bookbags, ParentMail (Juniors) and increasingly on Facebook. We have a closed group there, and find it the quickest way of communicating with parents and carers – particularly when we are looking for volunteers! If you are not already a member, please let us know and we will add you to the group.

How you can help!

Becoming a Friend is a fantastic way to get to know other people, get involved, make friends and most importantly, is a great way for YOU to make a real contribution to YOUR child’s school. We always welcome ideas, suggestions and feedback, and we are always looking for helpers and volunteers. If you are interested in helping in some way, however small, please take a minute to complete the attached form and return it to the school office, or a member of the Friends.
