Welcome to Oak Class Page
English and Topic
A fantastic fantasy adventure awaits! We will be reading lots of different fantasy stories and looking at their characteristics. In particular, we will be looking at stories containing knights and dragons and how they usually end up fighting each other but not always with the expected consequences! We will also be looking at non-fiction books to find out real facts about knights, their armour and how they lived. Towards the end of the term we will support our phonics learning by investigating rhyming poetry and will even try to write our own poem about Ten Dancing Dragons.
This term we will focus on time and money as our starter activities. This will include learning to read the time on a clock as well as learning the days of the week and months of the year in order. We will look at significant times of the day such as wake up and bed times. For money, we will be looking at the different coins and the alternate ways that we can make different totals. We will also be using money to consolidate our addition and subtraction knowledge. We will also spend the term looking at measures, including capacity using liquids, weights for solids and length of objects.
The Reading Challenge!
Well done to Lucas who won the Reading Trophy last term with over 35 reads! Congratulations to Sam who came a very close second.
Please continue to read with your child for 5 – 10 minutes a day. The children will gain one point for every night they read. Please sign their reading records to make sure they get their points. The children have chosen their reading prizes for this tern as ‘Points mean Prizes!’ for gaining a certain number of reading points.
Everyone will continue to swim on Friday mornings this term. As the weather gets colder, please ensure your child has a coat and hat for the walk back to school. There will also be horse-riding for specific children this term.
Please ensure that your child’s PE kit is in school for the whole week as it is likely that they will be doing PE with their mainstream class too.
