In a first for Marlborough St Mary’s a group of 43 children took part in the Young Voices choir event at the O2 Arena in London joining with children from other schools to sing in a choir of 7139 voices. The children worked hard to learn a variety of songs in a range of styles from British folk songs (with a section sung in Welsh) to a Rock Medley (complete with air guitar). However, the universal favourites were Birdhouse in Your Soul and the Pop Medley including songs from Taylor Swift and Adele.
Leaving school at 9:00 and returning after midnight definitely made it one of their longest ever school days but there were smiles on their faces from beginning to end and all the children were a credit themselves, the school and their parents.
Key memories for all will be the looks of awe and wonder as the children first entered the concert arena and took their places and then the fantastic buzz of excitement as the lights dimmed and the concert began.
The whole experience of participating in a concert in such a wonderful venue was amazing and one which we aim to repeat in future years.
