Marlborough during WW2

The year 5 and 6 students had a fascinating talk with Roddy Miller and Neil Stevens who are WW2 enthusiasts. They came to school dressed as American GI’s with many items of memorabilia including decommissioned guns. A Colt 45 pistol, a Tommy sub machine gun and a Bren gun. The children were enthralled to hear all about the events in and around Marlborough in the second world war. We were shown lots of original photos from this time including tanks driving through Marlborough High Street, Savernake Forest being used as an ammunitions dump and Marlborough Common being used as a working hospital. Thank you Mr Miller and Mr Stevens for giving up your time and filling us full of local historical knowledge.
