Visit from Alastair Shanks

Alastair Shanks came into school this morning to talk about his experience of achieving his goal of sailing across the Atlantic ocean in the Atlantic race for cruisers. The sailing boat was 63 feet long. He talked about perseverance and courage and overcoming hurdles. He told the children that it took 13 days 23 hours and 20 minutes to cross the Atlantic and they won their class. They saw whales, dolphins and flying fish. The hardest parts were coping with tiredness and having to stay up at night. Some scary moments where when the wind picked up, and being in a confined place with 7 other people for two weeks. The great bits were achieving a life long goal, sailing a very fast exciting boat and getting off when they got to the other side!
