Robin and Wren

Welcome to Reception,

We are thrilled to extend a warm welcome to your child as they embark on an enchanting journey within our Hygge inspired classrooms, designed to envelop them in an atmosphere of comfort, serenity, and emotional well-being.

Our foremost objective is to provide an extension of your child's home, where they feel not only secure, but where they can truly flourish and reach their highest potential.

Our daily routine commences with tranquil melodies and small group discussions, fostering expressive language development and nurturing the values of respect and active listening. Following this, our dedicated Read Write Inc. (RWI) phonics lessons empower your child with essential foundational skills, which are seamlessly applied during our writing activities.

Each day, we immerse ourselves in the pleasure of reading in our inviting reading nooks. Our mastery approach to Maths lessons are designed to deepen our knowledge of numbers and to become brilliant and secure mathematicians.

We are privileged to have specialised Physical Education (PE) instructors who guide us through invigorating activities every Monday and Thursday. Our expansive outdoor play areas, including the wooden castle and pirate ship, provide ample opportunities for your child to engage in physical exercise, honing their motor skills.

Our proximity to the beautiful Savernake Forest and our ample outdoor areas grant us the privilege of incorporating outdoor learning and exploration into our curriculum. We embark on a number of enriching outdoor experiences including  visits to Priory gardens, Stonebridge meadow and Savernake forest. We will build fires to make soup, sample all manner of healthy snacks, visit the local St Mary's church and make connections with our local care homes. These enriching experiences foster a profound connection with nature and our local community and expand your child's knowledge in a unique way.

Your child will be in an enriching and supportive learning environment that focusses on both academic growth and emotional well-being. This holistic approach will contribute to your child's overall development and love for learning.

We will regularly keep in contact with Class Dojo and Tapestry and, of course, always feel free to talk to us at the end of the school day.

PE days

Please send your child in prepared for PE on the following days –

 Monday (outdoors) and Thursday (indoors)

How to support your child at home:

  • Read with your child using their school reading book
  • Read bedtime stories
  • Watch phonics video links that are sent home weekly on Class Dojo.
  • Talk about the story of your child's day - what have they been doing, what did they enjoy, who do they play with. Allow them to answer you in full sentences and ask you questions about your day too.

Please see below for our knowledge organisers for the term.
