Term 3

This term, our curriculum has been centred around the theme of heroes, focusing on individuals who contribute to our homes, schools, and communities. One of our primary texts for exploration has been "Supertato," a delightful story featuring a superhero who aids vegetables in the supermarket, protecting them from the mischievous Evil Pea.

As part of our interdisciplinary approach and enrichment activities, we've engaged in a range of exciting experiences inspired by the text. From crafting our own traps to embarking on hunts for the mischievous Evil Pea, and delving into the world of various fruits and vegetables, our students have been fully immersed in the theme. Following thoughtful discussions, we collectively decided to prepare vegetable soup, igniting a spark of excitement within our classroom.

Our journey to create the soup was a collaborative effort, starting with meticulous planning and the creation of a shopping list. Thanks to the generosity of Waitrose Marlborough, we were granted the opportunity to visit their store. This outing provided a hands-on learning experience as we navigated the aisles, identifying food groups, and discovering a plethora of unique fruits and vegetables, including a playful encounter with Evil Pea nestled in the freezer section. With our basket brimming with fresh produce, we weighed and purchased our ingredients, ready to embark on our culinary adventure.

The anticipation for our fire day was palpable, and not even the chilliest of days could dampen our spirits. Bundled up and prepared, we embraced the outdoors and embarked on an unforgettable journey. Throughout the day, we engaged in a multitude of activities:

  • Gathering sticks in bundles, categorising them by length and quantity.
  • Utilising fire steels to ignite flames, fostering essential survival skills.
  • Skilfully whittling wood to fashion skewers for roasting marshmallows and preparing hot chocolate.
  • Mastering the art of damper bread, a rustic delight to complement our hearty soups.
  • Collaboratively peeling and chopping vegetables, honing culinary skills while fostering teamwork.

Every facet of the curriculum was seamlessly interwoven into our activities, fostering resilience and determination among our students, who braved the elements with unwavering enthusiasm.
