Computing

At Marlborough St. Mary's, we believe in providing our students with the skills and knowledge they need to excel in today's fast-paced world. Technology is an essential part of our daily lives, and we want our students to be masters of technology, using it positively, responsibly, and safely.

Our Vision

Our vision is to create an inclusive, happy, and successful school at the heart of the community. Working together, our families and staff help our children become confident, independent learners who care for themselves, each other, and the environment. We encourage our students to be brilliant, bold, and kind, fostering a belief in themselves and their ability to learn and achieve.

Curriculum Intent

In the world we live in, technology is everywhere and will play a pivotal role in our children's lives. At our school, we have a strong focus on ensuring our students are well-prepared for the world of Computing. We strive to equip them with the necessary tools to not only navigate but also excel in this digital age.

Our comprehensive curriculum encompasses three main areas:

  1. Computer Science: Understanding how computers work and how to create using technology.
  2. Information Technology: Learning to use a variety of digital tools effectively.
  3. Digital Literacy: Building awareness of how to safely and responsibly engage with technology.

We emphasise the importance of making informed choices in using technology and showcase positive use through our approach, especially with social media. By educating our students about technology, we aim to prevent issues commonly associated with its use and encourage creative and responsible utilisation.

Curriculum Implementation

To ensure our students receive a well-rounded education in computing, we've created a detailed roadmap for our educators. This progression document outlines the skills and knowledge that build upon each other as our students progress through their school years. It covers a wide range of topics, including programming, data handling, online relationships, digital art, and much more.

Our approach includes embedding computing into various subjects across the curriculum, making learning creative and accessible. We encourage our pupils to be fluent in using various tools to best express their understanding. By Upper Key Stage 2, we aim for our children to have the independence and confidence to choose the best tool for a given task or challenge set by their teachers.

Impact

We want our students to enjoy and appreciate the computing curriculum we provide. We encourage them to think critically about why they are learning what they are, not just how. We believe finding the right balance with technology is essential for an effective education and a healthy lifestyle.

Regular discussions between staff and pupils help us to continually improve and adapt our curriculum. We value showcasing our students' work, as it highlights the positive impact our curriculum has on their learning and development. Tracking progress is an ongoing process, demonstrated through student outcomes, knowledge and skills assessments, and our commitment to continuous improvement.

At Marlborough St. Mary's, we are dedicated to preparing our students to be responsible, creative, and proficient users of technology, enabling them to succeed in a rapidly advancing digital world.
